2022 IAU 24 Hour European Championships, Verona, Italy - 17th – 18th September, 2022 in Verona, Italy.

Irish Team

5 women (Aoife, Lorraine, Sinead, Nichola, Ann) and 8 men were on the Irish team. Both teams were very strong.

When the race started there were 29 Federations with 236 athletes on the start line with Ireland's Women team finishing in eight position and the Men in ninth.

The individual titles went to Aleksandr Sorokin from Lithuania finishing with a new world record distance of 319.614Km (4:30K avg for 24hrs) and Patricja Bereznowska of Poland with a distance of 256.250Km.

I had 3 guide runners (Chris, Jessie, Miki). They guided me around the course safely. I stood out in the race because I was the only one using a guide runner. Competing in ultras against able bodied is tough. Most runners are aware of my visual impairment. Most runners wished me well each time they met me on the 1.528m loop.

This video is a small snapshot of the 24hour race. Hope you enjoy.
