As 2024 draws to a close, I’ve taken some time to reflect on a year full of highs, lows, and everything in between. Here’s a look back at the journey:
- February – Kickstarted the year with the Seville Marathon. A very congested start and although flat there were lots of twists and turns. Finished with a solid time of 3:27 and a great start to the year!
- April – Ran the London Marathon and shaved a couple of minutes off my time, finishing in 3:25. Progress! Added bonus of a Para Elite start and traveled to the Race on the Elite Athlete bus.
- May – Traveled to Nottwil, Switzerland, for Paralympic classification. Grateful to have completed this process - valid until 2028!
- June – Took part in the Women’s Mini Marathon 10K, finishing as the first visually impaired athlete. It wasn’t a PB, but the day was all about the experience.
- July – Faced a tough moment when I learned that I wasn’t selected for the Paralympic Marathon in Paris. Even though It was a disappointing setback, it didn’t stop me from going out for my daily run the next day.
- August – Picked up a nagging hamstring injury, which has been a frustrating challenge. Still managed to push through and complete two half marathons - in Youghal and Olyegate.
- September – Berlin Marathon delivered another sub-3:30 finish, crossing the line in 3:29 even though my Garmin recorded 43.68Km. John had the same.
- October – Closed out the Marathon season at the Dublin Marathon, running my best time of the year with 3:24 and first place in the VI female category.
- December – unfortunately I’m still dealing with the hamstring injury and had to postpone Fitness Testing in DCU.
- Also hosted 5 Guide Running Workshops in Leixlip, Galway, Cork and two in Dublin with @johnoregan777 and supported by @lulu
It wasn’t always easy, but every mile taught me something. Running every day remains my anchor, and I’m already excited to see what 2025 holds.
Here’s to new goals, new challenges, and new finish lines. 🏁
