Delighted to speak at the Waterford Chamber, Skillnet, and Regional Leaders Programme event at the stunning Faithlegg Hotel.

Over 50 professionals graduated from the Waterford Chamber’s Regional Leaders Programme, joining an elite network of over 500 alumni who are actively driving business growth and innovation across the South East.

Opening the event, Kevin Doolin, President of Waterford Chamber, shared a powerful message: “The very basis for this programme is to develop a cohort of future leaders… that is you. Your job now is to go out there and lead — strengthen our business community and be a voice for that community. Work together, dream big, build the network and the rest will follow.”

I was honoured to share my journey and speak on a topic close to my heart: Leadership. For me, leadership isn’t about job titles — it’s about actions and mindset. It means:

  • Staying calm and measured in the face of chaos
  • Having the courage to step forward, even when the path is unclear
  • Being anchored in your values, letting them guide your decisions

I spoke openly about the challenges I’ve faced, how I’ve broken down barriers, and how I’ve refused to let limitations define me. Leadership, in my experience, is built through action, consistency, and staying true to who you are — even when it’s difficult.

It was a privilege to address a room full of passionate mentors, coaches, and programme participants who are already making a difference in their organisations and communities.

Before the celebrations wrapped up, Michael Stafford of The Chapter Coach extended gratitude to key partners Waterford Chamber Skillnet and Bausch + Lomb for their invaluable support, and to the mentors and ICF Ireland coaches who dedicate their time and expertise to this impactful programme.

Interest is already building for the next Regional Leaders Programme, kicking off in September. If you’re a professional looking to grow your leadership capabilities, this is a fantastic opportunity. Expressions of interest are now being accepted — reach out to Lynda.lawton@waterfordchamber.ie or visit www.waterfordchamber.ie for details.

This programme, created by the business community for the business community, offers 1:1 mentoring, panel discussions, and inspiring talks — all aimed at developing values-driven leaders who are ready to shape the future of the region.

Thank you to everyone involved for such a warm welcome. It was a day filled with connection, inspiration, and celebration — and I’m proud to have been part of it.
