22/06/25 – Waterford Viking Half Marathon ![]()
What a fantastic day from start to finish. I only decided earlier this month to enter – and I’m so glad I did.
From the moment I signed up, the staff were incredibly helpful. Huge credit to the organisers – over 4,500 participants took part across the full marathon, half marathon, and 10K… and it was brilliant to see the first disability-friendly run included too ![]()
My plan for the day?
Enjoy it
Get a solid training effect
Learn to suffer a bit better in races (still working on that one
)
I had no big expectations – just wanted to experience the course and soak up the atmosphere. But… once that buzzer goes off, the adrenaline kicks in! ![]()
It was warm and humid so I crossed the line drenched in sweat – and with a big smile. Delighted to unexpectedly finish in the top 16 and even more surprised to bag a PB! ![]()
Big thanks to my guide John – the greenway sections were tight and tricky, but we navigated them well.
Loved seeing familiar faces at the finish line and making new friends too. Great chatting with you Tom and Jessie!
I would highly recommend this event to anyone – brilliant course, brilliant people, brilliant day ![]()
