Ultima Oil Moneystown 4 Mile Road Race today ![]()
Perfect running conditions — dry, cool, and about 6 degrees. A fantastic turnout with over 300 runners, and both the men’s and women’s course records were broken.
It was great to catch up with my good friend Jessie O’Connor, who has previously guided me, before the race. I also really enjoyed chatting with fellow runners, volunteers, and all the kids before and after the event. There was a brilliant community spirit throughout.
I had a lovely catch‑up as well with my friend Ann Marie, principal of Moneystown National School, which the race supports. It’s fantastic to see an event like this bringing people together while raising funds for the school.
My plan going into the race was to average 4:15–4:20 per km and still feel strong at the finish — and thankfully I achieved that, so I’m very happy with how it went.
A big thank you to John, who guided me today. He was feeling sick but still showed up because he knew how much I wanted to run. He has stood by me through so many races, whether he was feeling good or not, and I’m very grateful for that support.
Well done to Race Director Louis Byrne and the entire organising committee. The race was excellent, and you should all be very proud. Thanks to Ann and Louis for the hospitality before and after the race — the chats, the laughs, and most importantly the food!
This is definitely a race to put in your diary for next year.
I plan to be back next year.
