Donadea 50k 2022

By: Sinead Kane

A new PB for 50k.I did this race in 2015 as my first ultra and finished in 4:52Today I did 4:37:02.

I only decided earlier this week to do the race today. I said I would do it as a training run for the Anglo Celtic Plate 100k in April. I wasn't sure if I could get a guide at such short notice but thankfully my running guide Jessie was available. My longest training run over recent months has been 23k and because of that I was apprehensive as I wasn’t sure if I would even get to the marathon distance because of my fear from not having a sufficient long run done was getting the better of me.

When I turned up this morning it was lashing raining and so around the trail in the forest was extremely slippy, muddy with lots of pot holes and so I told the guide and my support crew John I was too fearful to do the race because of my eye sight that the surface would not be good for me. They encouraged me to do it to even just go slow since I was using it as a training run. They told me to even just do 1 lap of 5k and see how I feel as the course was made up of 10 x 5k loops.

After the first loop I settled in. I nearly slipped a good few times but the quick reaction of Jessie, my guide, prevented me from falling. The other runners on the course were so friendly and supportive as I went around.

Thankfully the rain cleared up and the sun came out. All in all a great day and another great memory from the Donadea 50K.

Whether you’re just starting out, ready to go after a PB, seeking to improve your form/speed, or are anywhere in between, Coach John and Sinead are here to help.
