International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a UN day that is celebrated every year on 3rd December. The day has been celebrated since 1992.
The day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and rights in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
The IDPD theme this year is: “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world“
Did you know that nearly 15% of the world’s population is disabled in some capacity? Despite the disabled community being the largest minority group globally, there is little representation in the media.
Remember, we should all care about disability because anyone can become disabled through accident or illness.
Ways to celebrate the day:
- Host a training session.
- Recognise Neurodiversity.
- Look at the culture around you. Is it open to disability and inclusion.
- Make the environment more accessible.
- Donate to disabled charities.
