Oylegate Half Marathon Today.
Aims for today
Run sub 1.40.
Run a PB
Practice fuelling (My stomach cannot handle gels).
I have tried so many times and gels just mess up my stomach. So today I tried taking on Gu chews and a sports drink.
Today I used 8 chews which = 22.5g Carbs.
I also managed about 500ml of Lucozade Sport which seems to work for me. This was carried in 2 small 250ml bottles.
Today Result
139.16 time.
3rd female overall.
2nd age category.
On the drive to the race it was raining on and off and windy. Straight away I thought - oh look will we do this. With a little encouragement from John AKA - you’re doing it
I soon collected my race number and went to start line.
It was a hilly course (good for leg strength, that is what I kept telling myself).
The first loop was up and down.
The second loop I knew what was coming but then I reframed it in my head saying this - you’re on the 2nd loop now, not far to go so just get on with it.
Thanks to the organisers and all those who came out to support. It was great having kids out on the course clapping and cheering on the 10k and half marathon runners.
The race today was in aid of Women’s Refuge Wexford. The race was well organised and there was refreshments afterwards. Would highly recommend the race if anyone is looking for a 10k or half marathon next year.
