Massive thank you to my guide runner, Jessie O’Connor, for stepping in at such short notice. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to do the race.
If Jessie hadn’t been available, I was thinking of trying to run myself, but the risk of falling would have been quite high, especially if I was running at an intense pace. The faster the pace, the higher the risk for me.
I don’t see depth, so any dip in the road can be a problem for me. Sunlight also affects my eyes a lot, making it extremely difficult to see where I’m going.
Some people may wonder why I was let off a minute or two before the main field. Some races allow visually impaired runners to start 1 - 2 minutes before the main field to help avoid trip hazards. Any time given at the beginning is always added on to my final time at the end.
Running in my hometown of Youghal is truly special and always will be.
Thank you to everyone who shouted my name out on the course. Thank you so much!! It helped a lot. The energy out there makes all the difference.
Well done to Youghal AC, the stewards, volunteers, medical team, supporters, and everyone who contributed to making it such a wonderful event.
This is a very well organised event and I would highly recommend it. I had a great day!
I may need to reconsider my shoe choice for the next race, though…
(Be prepared for the last pic!). Yep, there was pain for the entire second lap ![]()
See you again next year!
